Luke 7:36 - Additional Comments

When someone asks you to eat with them, generally they are trying to do something for you, to serve you a good meal, and to spend time with you. Yet Jesus' purpose was not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). Here Jesus is in a situation where he is the receiver, yet his whole purpose for being there is to give. As we find ourselves in places and situations, may we always have the perspective of looking at how we can give to those who are there.
Amazingly, all Jesus did He did with a purpose. He had a purpose for joining the Pharisee for dinner. It seems that many would call out to Jesus to join them, to heal them, to help their loved one, so that He did not attend to everyone's needs, only to a chosen group. Jesus must have chosen that which would have the greatest purpose, even though some He chose not to attend to still would have had a worthy purpose. So, not only did Jesus do everything with a purpose, He always chose to do what had the greatest purpose.
What was Jesus' favorite food? To do God's will (John 4:34). And that is what He was doing at the Pharisee's house. So, little did the Pharisee know it, but Jesus was getting his favorite food at the Pharisee's house! (What is your favorite food?)
