Interesting that there was a distinction between the disciples of John and the disciples of Jesus. That implies they became followers of John, instead of what John was trying to tell them, to be followers of Jesus. This is similar to how some people become seemingly more devoted to a pastor more than the message he is teaching, which is to follow Jesus.
It sounds like those who became disciples of John were also followers of the Pharisees, for they followed them in their works.
