It is very probable that this psalm and Psalm 103 were written by the same author at the same time, for we see Psalm 103 begin and end the same way this begins, 'Bless the Lord O my soul'.
The scope of this psalm is to celebrate God's greatness, and majesty, and sovereign dominion, which ought to be done in the highest strains of poetry and song.
In this psalm he tells of the glory of God's works of creation and providence, and His dominion over and goodness to all creatures.
