James 1:22 says to be doers of the Word, not just hearers. That means we are to do more than just hear. But how can you do it unless you know it, unless you take it with you as you walk?
Joshua 1:8 says we are to be meditating on His Word all the time! And how can we do that unless we have it in our mind at all times?
This is one of the great ways to avoid sin - memorize, and use it! That's what Jesus did (Matt 4:1-11).
