He restores my soul. The OT never says soul. They didn't understand that concept of the abstract. They understood two things, you have flesh and there is wind. "Soul" here means "self" or "life", not the soul as we think of it. So, in effect, this says that God restores my life, i.e. he protects me physically (not my spirit). In Gen 19:20, Lot says "please let me escape... and my soul shall live". It meant "life" to them.
The shepherd guides the sheep on the paths they are to take. Why does God show us the paths we are to take? To honor and bless Him. Like sheep, our Shepherd continuously shows us the paths we are to take. Are we paying attention? Do we hear Him and ignore Him? How often during the week does God say, take this path, not that path, for the path I am showing you is the path of righteousness? Note that taking the correct path not only honors God, but clearly (in many other promises), God shows that we will also be honored and blessed.
