Muslims are dedicated to praying in the direction of Mecca 5 times daily. They carry compasses so they can face Mecca. Islam is a false religion. We worship the true and living God. And yet our worship services commonly have such a low priority in our lives that any excuse will do for not attending. Of those who do attend, many are spectators and not truly worshipping God. And, most believers spend little or no time in private worship during the week. This psalm encourages us to worship.
This psalm is to be sung with a holy reverence of God's majesty and a dread of his justice, with a desire to please him and a fear to offend him.
The psalmist's goal is to stir up praise and worship and reverence to God in himself and in others.
This verse tells us to "shout joyfully" (NASB), to make a "joyful noise" (KJV), referring to our singing. God doesn't want a pure voice, but a pure heart. Our worship, our praise, is to be done with great joy, with a melody in our hearts (Eph 5:19). See the notes on Psalm 100:1,2 and Phil 3:1. The command is not just to sing, but to fix the heart so the singing is from joy.
It says to let "us" sing, which implies the singing can be in corporate worship.
