Romans 1:12 - Additional Comments

Paul says in verse 1 he is a bondservant of Jesus Christ. In verses 9-12 we see his passion for others, to lift them up and meet their needs.

Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, is one of the richest men in the world. He has a lot of purpose in his life. He is very close to his family, he is very successful with his work, he has many outlets of play (he owns 2 pro sports teams), and he is very focused on how he can help others. Yet it seems like he is chasing something that he can't get a hold of. It is a life without God.
There are five areas of life that give us purpose.
o Three of these come naturally - family, work, and play.
o Two don't come naturally. One of these is getting to know God.
o The other is serving others.
Hebrews 10:24-25 says "let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds." This implies that love and good deeds should be so overflowing in your life that you are actually challenging others to do the same!

The 2 greatest purposes in life are getting to know God and to serve others. Paul is showing us here his passion and dedication for others. In our walk to get to know God better, we need to focus on others.

Eph 4:28 "He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have {something} to share with one who has need."
o God even tells us that part of our purpose in working is so we can help others. Is that one of your goals in your occupation? We are to be people-focused.

God has things for every person to do. Here are some suggestions.
Bring food or a present to someone else, impromptu, no reason.
Concerned about someone? Call them! Try to get past the casual stuff to find out how they are doing, and let them talk.
Smile, be enthusiastic. Be filled with the Spirit. God is a God of joy and peace.
Write a note to someone, telling them something you appreciate about them. Big gains on this one.
Pay attention to what God is saying to you in your time with Him. Share it with others, to encourage them.
Come to church and class prepared to worship. We can minister to God (and others) through worship.
Share your faith with those without faith. The harvest is plentiful. There are people that want to hear about Jesus.
Tell someone you will pray for them. Do it regularly. Check up with them to see what God is doing in their life.
Bring food to the church's food pantry. And not just stuff you don't like.
Someone in the hospital or sick? Visit them.
Know any elderly? Visit them.
Keep your ears and eyes open for needs, often unspoken, and be available to help.
Be a person of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, so others can see Jesus Christ.
Befriend your neighbors or classmates.
Pay attention to who hasn't been to church or Sunday School in a few weeks, and contact them.
When you hear of a project, offer your help, e.g. helping someone move. Look for projects to start for others.
Have an impromptu social - just call a bunch of people to get together.
Befriend others in the church outside of your peers - singles, elderly, teens, etc.
Spend time with God - this ministers to Him (Acts 13:2, Deuteronomy 10:8).
Regularly attend church services. This ministers to the ministers. Ever thought that attending services actually ministers to the pastor?
Ask God every day what He would have you to do that day.

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."
Luke 10:2 Then He said to them, "The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."
Hebrews 6:9-10 But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
