Romans 14:10 - La Biblia de las Americas

Romans 14:10 - The Message

So where does that leave you when you criticize a brother? And where does that leave you when you condescend to a sister? I’d say it leaves you looking pretty silly—or worse. Eventually, we’re all going to end up kneeling side by side in the place of judgment, facing God. Your critical and condescending ways aren’t going to improve your position there one bit. Read it for yourself in Scripture:

   "As I live and breathe," God says,
      "every knee will bow before me;
   Every tongue will tell the honest truth
      that I and only I am God."
So tend to your knitting. You’ve got your hands full just taking care of your own life before God.

Romans 14:10 - New American Standard Bible

But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.

Romans 14:10 - Nueva Biblia Latinoamericana de Hoy

Pero tù, ¿por qué juzgas a tu hermano? O también, tù, ¿por qué desprecias a tu hermano? Porque todos compareceremos ante el tribunal de Dios.

Romans 14:10 - World English Bible

But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Romans 14:10 - Young's Living Translation

And thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or again, thou, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand at the tribunal of the Christ;

Romans 14:10 - Additional Comments

Paul is dealing with a problem of people looking down on other believers
One issue had to do with eating meat. One group felt eating meat was a moral issue, while another group thought it wasn't a moral issue. Paul said it wasn't a moral issue but could become one if it caused a weaker brother to stumble.
Another issue included observing special days. This arose from the different backgrounds of the believers (Rom 15:9-13). They were judging them for not keeping special days. Their tendency was to "look down on" those who weren't doing what they were doing.
Where do you see this in our church today?
Do you see any problems like this in the church today? E.g. not at church when doors are open, what people wear, people leaving the service in the middle of service, knowledge of scripture, helping with nursery, etc.
Paul warns not to judge or look down on fellow believers. See Rom 14:3, 5.
Paul reminds the church that each person is accountable to God, and God is their Judge. See Rom 14:4,6
We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Each believer must live with the Judgment Seat of Christ in view (2 Cor 5:10).
God is their judge, not us! Stop being the dad!!
On that day we will not be concerned about the validity of what others have done, for every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
