Romans 15:4

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

The presumption is that we will have hurt, otherwise we would not need patience and comfort. The Scripture is where we can turn for comfort and patience. When we hurt, we can have hope, because we have access to patience and comfort through the Word.
