Romans 3:19 - Additional Comments

There are 2 themes in the next 12 verses:
- we cannot be justified by works according to the law
- we must be justified by faith
"Justified" means to be made righteous.
Various sets of laws that govern us, that his reference to the law does not refer to:
- The first innocent law in Eden. There was no room for repentance.
- The laws of nature (i.e. science).
- The ceremonial law, for the blood of animals cannot take away sin (see Heb 10:1-4,11, 9:9, 7:18-19, Ps 40:6)
- The moral law (do unto others..., i.e. how to treat your neighbor), which is generally included in God's law.
It is the law of the knowledge of sin in which you are judged, and in which you need justification.
If we had never sinned, our obedience to the law would be our righteousness. But (like a drop of poison in water), one sin placed us in debt, it taints our life as it did with Adam and Eve. We are guilty before the judge. (How many crimes does it take to go to jail? How much goodness removes the guilt for that crime? Karla Faye Tucker, although she became a Christian and turned her life around, was still executed in Texas for her heinous crime of murder with a pick axe.)
All must realize it is vanity to look for justification by works "of the law", meaning in alignment with the law. See how the Pharisee tried, in Luke 18:10-14.
Once the law is broken, there is no way to retract the act. What happens in the end times? Jude 14-15. Judgment is executed against all, and the ungodly will be convicted of their sins. (They are speechless - Matt 22:4-13.) There is no weighting the good vs the bad.
