For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Go over your life, and count your sins. That cannot be done - they are seemingly endless. Now, go to the court where they will read off the list of your sins. But we find out (verse 1) there is now no condemnation to those in Christ. WOW! We can leave the court FREE! What a debt we have to Christ. How are we to show our gratitude? By putting to death the deeds of the flesh, and living by the Spirit - paying attention to His coaching. If we let Him coach us, lead us, then God calls us sons of God - a new title, a new state (vs 14). And also children of God (vs 16).
