Jeremiah 20:18 - Additional Comments

This is how Jeremiah sees his days, as filled, even consumed with shame. That is all he can think about, the shame he faces constantly.
Years ago a song asked the question, "What's it all about, Alfie?" What is the purpose of life? Sometimes we get into a funk, and become melancholy or depressed, and just wish it would all go away, or even regret that it even started, as Jeremiah did (vss 14-18). Even though you don't see it at the time, you have great worth to God, just like Jeremiah did. Jeremiah was the voice of God, as a prophet, in one of the most critical and pivotal points in the history of Israel. If Jeremiah had given up at this point, we probably would not have had God's voice heard during this critical period, and we probably would not have had this book of Scripture.
You need to know of your value and worth, even though you don't always see it. And you need to know that it's totally worth it to work through the pain and challenges, whatever they may be. Just as Jeremiah did.
