Mark 8:29 - Additional Comments
In verse 28 we see that the people didn't get it yet. They did not yet realize who Jesus was. Jesus was keeping it reasonably hidden at this point, referring to Himself as the Son of Man rather than the Son of God. See vs 30, as Jesus is still not openly revealing it.
The word here is Christ, Messiah, the anointed One. The disciples might be missing many things (see vs 21), but they got the most important - who Jesus is. He is the Messiah predicted of old, that has finally arrived. How incredibly awesome it must have felt to be with the savior of all mankind.
And after all these thousands of years, there are so many people that still don't know who Jesus is... but His disciples do!! He is the Christ.
