Here is another verse that supports baptism not being required for salvation - otherwise would Paul be so glad he did not convert very many?
Paul, as a leader, was very conscious that he wanted people to focus on Christ, and not on him. That is sometimes difficult to do as a leader who receives praise, adoration, and compliments.
