1 Corinthians 1:12 - Additional Comments

This sounds like the first denominations. Actually, not so, since this was within the same church. As people tend to follow the leader instead of Christ, the same happened back then. Different people in the church were aligning with different leaders, and not primarily with Christ. As now, people can align with certain leaders in a church, or factions in the church, possibly leading to a church split, or other problems (like forcing a pastor to resign).
Apollos was eloquent, a gifted preacher (which Paul was not). After being tutored by Aquila and Pricilla, he was invited to serve in the Corinth church. Paul and Apollos were warm friends and co-workers.
Peter was the head of the church in Jerusalem.
