The word for "church" also meant "assembly", and was sometimes even used for political assemblies.
One of many places where "saints" means the same as Christians. All Christians are saints.
"Saints" and "sanctified" have the same root word, meaning those who are set apart or dedicated.
These Corinthians are the same people that Paul strongly reproved; they are sanctified by God through Christ, not based on their actions. (Although, sanctification is also a process.)
