1 Corinthians 11:26 - Additional Comments

Note the emphasis is not how often, but the purpose for it when it takes place. Except for the example in Acts that they did it daily (Acts 2:42,46), then once a week (Acts 20:7), there seems to be no emphasis on how often it should take place. But Jesus does ask that we do it regularly.
There also does not seem to imply a required location, or person to administer it, so it could be done in homes. In Acts, they did it in the temple (Acts 2:42,46).
Here is the purpose for Communion - to proclaim Jesus' death. It is a way of keeping it in focus over time, to keep it in mind. It is a way to tell ourselves and the world over and over again about Jesus.
It is also a statement about our personal relationship with Jesus - John 6:54 "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." This is why those who do not know Christ are not to take of Communion. If they do, it doesn't mock Christ (unless they intend to do so) - it is just meaningless.
It is also a sign of unity in the body - 1 Cor 10:17 "Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread."
