(cnn.com) In a new study conducted by marriage counselor M. Gary Neuman, it's estimated that one in 2.7 men will cheat -- and most of their wives will never know about it. What's the number one reason men cheat? Ninety-two percent of men said it wasn't primarily about the sex. "The majority said it was an emotional disconnection, specifically a sense of feeling underappreciated. A lack of thoughtful gestures," Gary says. "Men are very emotional beings. They just don't look like that. Or they don't seem like that. Or they don't tell you that."
Both men and women desire affection, kindness, goodness, warmth, real friendship.
In particular, there is what can be considered a commitment that each spouse owes to the other in regards to affection.
There should also be a commitment to sex. While it is not healthy to have sex when either partner is just not in the mood, it is healthy to make an extra effort in this area to meet the needs of your spouse, to go out of your way, to help out even if not everything is just right for you. But, there needs to be a balance (see vs 4). But, your affection should not be with ulterior motives, i.e. you are nicer when you want sex, or grumpier when you don't get sex.
