Paul makes the argument that there are definite spiritual benefits of remaining single. You have the opportunity for more focused time on God. This reminds me of an ex-prisoner I once heard speak. He obviously loved his new freedom, but he lamented over the loss of the large amount of focused time with God he had in prison.
