1 Corinthians 8:7
King James Version (KJV)
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
Translations
1 Corinthians 8:7 - Amplified Bible
Nevertheless, not all [believers] possess this knowledge. But some, through being all their lives until now accustomed to [thinking of] idols [as real and living], still consider the food [offered to an idol] as that sacrificed to an [actual] god; and their weak consciences become defiled {and} injured if they eat [it].
1 Corinthians 8:7 - American Standard Version
Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - Bible in Basic English
Still, all men have not that knowledge: but some, being used till now to the image, are conscious that they are taking food which has been offered to the image; and because they are not strong in the faith, their minds are troubled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - Darby Bible
But knowledge [is] not in all: but some, with conscience of the idol, until now eat as of a thing sacrificed to idols; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - English Standard Version
However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - King James Version
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - The Message
In strict logic, then, nothing happened to the meat when it was offered up to an idol. Its just like any other meat. I know that, and you know that. But knowing isnt everything. If it becomes everything, some people end up as know-it-alls who treat others as know-nothings. Real knowledge isnt that insensitive. We need to be sensitive to the fact that were not all at the same level of understanding in this. Some of you have spent your entire lives eating "idol meat," and are sure that theres something bad in the meat that then becomes something bad inside of you. An imagination and conscience shaped under those conditions isnt going to change overnight.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - New American Standard Bible
However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat {food} as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - World English Bible
However, that knowledge isn`t in all men. But some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
1 Corinthians 8:7 - Young's Living Translation
but not in all men [is] the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat [it], and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
