1 Kings 1:5 - Additional Comments

According to 2 Sam 3:2-5 (also listed in 1 Chr 3:1-3), these were David's first 6 sons, all born to David in Hebron
1. Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess - he raped his sister Tamar, and because of that his brother Absalom's servants killed Amnon 2 years later
2. Daniel (aka Chileab), by Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite - he is never heard from again in the Bible, so he may have died
3. Absalom, the son of Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur - he built a large army, declared himself king, and revolted against his father David, and nearly defeated him, before being defeated and killed
4. Adonijah, the son of Haggith - we read about him here
5. Shephatiah, the son of Abital - no further mention of him
6. Ithream, by David's wife Eglah - no further mention of him
Note that each of these six were born to different women. David had many other children by various wives and concubines - 2 Sam 5:13-16.
David has a lot of trouble and poor decisions in his life, yet still he was king because God had selected him, because David was a man after God's own heart (1 Sam 13:14, Acts 13:22).
