1 Peter 2:1 - Additional Comments

1. "Laying aside", casting aside, to put away, as one would to old clothes. Casting these sins aside is the only way to go to God's word, or else we cannot receive the word as we ought to.
2. Even the best Christians have to guard against these sins.
3. Note that our best efforts in our relationship with God are in vain if our efforts with men are weak.
4. Note it says "all". We must leave no room for even one act, so our life and our profit from the word is not hindered.
5. The summary is telling how to treat people. Do you respect them? Do you make fun of others? Or do you wish for their success? Do you ever seek bad or wrong for any others, or is your heart pure in all your attitudes towards others?
Malice - delighting when evil happens to others; evil intent
Deceit - causing hurt to others by falseness, lying, trickery
Hypocrisies - actions where you pretend friendship, make promises, but have other intentions (a hidden agenda)
Envy - grieving at the success of another, that it is not yours; can include abilities, wealth, fame, or successful endeavors
Evil Speaking - backbiting, speaking against another, bringing them down
