1 Peter 2:2 - Additional Comments

This is not addressed to new Christians. Peter is saying to the churches that, even though they have matured, they are to be like babes, in how they long for the milk. We need to have that same longing for God's Word. As milk is pure, so is His Word. We are to thirst after His Word, so we may grow from it. Without the thirst, you won't partake, and without the nourishment, you miss the growth.
When we come to church, how do we prepare? Do we hunger and thirst for Him, and for His Word? Do we get ready to partake of a meal? How do we prepare for our quiet times?
List your priorities. Let's see... God first, spouse second, then family, then church, then work. Do you obey Him, serve Him, out of a desire to be with Him, or because it is the expected thing to do? Do you attend church because it is expected, it is routine, or because you want to be fed, you long to be fed? Pray that God builds this in you. The Word of God does not leave a person as it finds them, but makes them better.
These verses describe how the writer longs for God and His Word - Job 23:12, Psalm 1:1-4, 42:1, 119:48, 97, 127, 131, 162, 165, Isaiah 26:8-9, Jer 15:16.
What is the difference between physical and spiritual growth? Physical growth stops about when you become an adult, but you have no choice in it. With spiritual growth, you choose when it stops, and how fast it progresses - if at all. Ahild may ask why an adult stopped growing - physically. We can ask why as person stopped growing - spiritually.
