1 Peter 5:5

King James Version (KJV)

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Translations

1 Peter 5:5 - Amplified Bible

Likewise, you who are younger {and} of lesser rank, be subject to the elders (the ministers and spiritual guides of the church)--[giving them due respect and yielding to their counsel]. Clothe (apron) yourselves, all of you, with humility [as the garb of a servant, so that its covering cannot possibly be stripped from you, with freedom from pride and arrogance] toward one another. For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)--[and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble.

1 Peter 5:5 - American Standard Version

Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

1 Peter 5:5 - Bible in Basic English

And in the same way, let the younger men be ruled by the older ones. Let all of you put away pride and make yourselves ready to be servants: for God is a hater of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low.

1 Peter 5:5 - Darby Bible

Likewise [ye] younger, be subject to [the] elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against [the] proud, but to [the] humble gives grace.

1 Peter 5:5 - English Standard Version

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

1 Peter 5:5 - King James Version

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

1 Peter 5:5 - The Message

1 Peter 5:5 - New American Standard Bible

You younger men, likewise, be subject to {your} elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.

1 Peter 5:5 - World English Bible

Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

1 Peter 5:5 - Young's Living Translation

In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace;

1 Peter 5:5 - Additional Comments

After challenging the elders, Peter now challenges young people to submit to those elders in his previous challenge.
In Luke 22:26 Jesus implies younger signifies a more humble situation than being older.
Obey, submit to your elders, for they watch over your souls (Hebrews 13:17).
Also, submit to each other, as far as reproofs, counsels, bearing each others burdens.
These submissions are contrary to our proud egos, and that is why we are encouraged to clothe ourselves with humility. That is the only way we can submit.
Being clothed in humility, it affects everything you do. If clothed in humility, you can't do a thing without it.
But notice how God treats the proud - he resists the proud. That means he hinders their movement, and fights against them. They are at odds - there is a battle between them.
And what does the humble get? All that God has - faith, wisdom, peace, all of God's blessings, all through His grace.
