Over and over God shows Israel that if they obey, God delivers them, and if they go after other gods, God hands them over into the hands of their enemies. In fact, if you are disobedient, "the hand of the Lord will be against you" - 12:15. Be afraid, be very afraid. Fear God, and obey Him. But wait - God tells us not to be afraid, if we serve God with all our heart (12:20). Bottom line - if we are disobeying, we should be afraid, and if we are serving God with our hearts, we will have peace.
