1 Samuel 14:2 - Additional Comments

Isn't it funny some of the specific details we get in the Bible? It tells us that it was a pomegranate tree that Saul was sitting underneath.
Saul dared not stay in Gibeah, but went to some obscure place, in a remote part of the region, near Gibeah. Some think that Saul took shelter there, so low and despondent since he had fallen under God's displeasure, every hour expecting the Philistines to come upon him, and thereby accomplish with words of Samuel's threats in 1 Sam 13:14. No one can consider themselves as safe who see themselves cast out of God's protection. How did he get to this state? He knew what God wanted, and ignored it. Isn't it the same for us when we knowingly disobey? Don't you feel ready for God's condemnation to come at any point? God works with us in different ways, but his primary goal is restoration. Have you sought reconciliation with God? Saul just ran, rather than reconcile. Again, maybe more of a reason why Jonathon acted independently.
