1 Samuel 17:36 - Additional Comments

Each time David faced a challenge, God came through, and his faith expanded. Now, he faces one of his biggest challenges, but God has built David's faith up to have the confidence to face it. Note that the size of the obstacle to be overcome never depended on God's ability to handle it, only on David's faith to accept and trust that God would come through. We need to be confident that God is working in every circumstance for us, for the best for us (Rom 8:28). And if God is for us, who can be against us (Rom 8:31)?
See Paul's faith and trust in God to provide, and God's provision, in tremendous struggles - 2 Cor 1:8-10.
Later David would have to trust God for even bigger things - the conquest of the many nations Israel fought against - the Philistines, Moabites, Syrians, Edomites, Ammonites, Amalekites, and all neighboring nations. See 2 Sam 8-10.
Note that David remembered the times God had come through for Him. We need to know when he has come through, and make it part of our testimony. How about keeping either a pile of rocks or plastic eggs, each with info on a time God came through? Or a prayer journal.
