1 Samuel 3:1 - Additional Comments

Later in this chapter God begins anew revelation of Himself, and does so with Samuel. This means that during the time Eli has been a priest, he had had no revelation from God.
Here Eli sees Samuel ministering to God, but with his own 2 sons, who were priests, he never gets to see this. Position in the church does not guarantee what kind of person servers. Sameul had no position, but is able to minister to Eli, while his sons hold high positions and never fulfill their duties.
Samuel must have known the sons well, but was not infliuenced by their evil. Amazing that Hannah left the maturity of Samuel to the priests in Shiloh, and despite what probably was some strong negative influence, God protected Samuel to grow and mature and honor God. What an amazing example of how God can lift people above the influence of their circumstances. If you know of any children in rough circumstances, you can pray with hope that God can raise them to faith and maturity despite where they are. Pray for them with faith that God will intervene.
