Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

The ark was carried from Gath (vss 8-9) to Ekron. Ekron was only a few miles from Gath. The people were3 afraid that the disease and death that occurred everywhere they brought the ark would also come to them. Some of the men were struck and killed, some were struck and lived. It appears all men were stricken (vs12).
