Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

These diviners and priests of Dagon told the leaders to watch out, for hardening their hearts against the Hebrew God and people caused total destruction. God had done miraculous things against the Egyptians, and now had done similar to the Philistines. They were saying to learn from history.
