2 Corinthians 10:12 - Additional Comments

Compare to the meekness of Christ mentioned in verse 1. Meekness does not consider self, but focuses on others.
Also, when we start to succeed in an area, we may tend to compare ourselves to others, and commend ourselves. The definition of wisdom is seeing and understanding things as God does. If we commend ourselves because we've compared ourselves to others, we are not wise -- we've failed to see things as God does. But instead, if we look at ourselves from God's perspective, we are wise. When we succeed, we need to see ourselves as unworthy, that the only way we have any success is because of God's grace, His gifts to us. And our success is limited, because we are never fully accomplishing everything God desires for us to do.
With this in mind, if we think that we are doing well in an area of our marriage, before we feel proud that we're doing better than them-and-them, we need to be wise. We need to look at our marriage as God does. He sees a potential for so much more.
Don't we sometimes compare ourselves with others who are struggling, thinking that we're doing okay compared to them? We need to be careful -- effectively this is placing us above them. Remember how close we can be to being in the same situation (if not for His grace). We are not to compare ourselves with others. We are to focus on others, and their needs, without looking at our self. Difficult, but this is God's goal for us. And when we see others, we are to see them all the same, without placing them into higher or lower categories. God has the highest hopes and love for all of us equally. May we be wise, and see things the same way.
