2 Corinthians 5:20 - Additional Comments

As a U.S. ambassador to a foreign country, those who come into contact with the ambassador have their images of what they represent formed by the ambassador. Their image of the U.S. is formed by that ambassador. But not entirely by that one person. Each person from the U.S. is an ambassador, because each person who travels creates an image of the U.S. in the minds of those in that country.
In the same way, wherever we go, we represent Christ, we speak for Christ. The world's image of Christ is made by their image of us.
When we bring the message as ambassador, it is as if those we speak to are a fallen nation, defeated. There is no detente, no negotiations, no discussion of terms of the treaty. We care for them, but they must be willing to "sign the treaty", with the terms that God specifies.
Ambassadors represent a foreign land, and are strange, unusual people to the natives (see vs 13). We are strangers, aliens, sojourners, pilgrims to the world (1 Peter 2:11).
