In verse 5 Paul mentioned his fears, and here he mentions his discouragement.
Don't be troubled if you have fears and discouragements - Paul had them, too. He needed comfort from others (see also vs 7), as they comforted each other (vs 13). This shows just how much we need to encourage each other. Let us never underestimate how much each person needs encouragement.
