For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.

Paul speaks of their "willingness". They were ready to do it, they had made the decision to do it, but they had not yet done it. How many things that God shows us we are to do, or to change, that we are willing to do, but don't follow through on? How many times does God convict us of something, and then by the next day nothing happens? We need to change this pattern. We should carry with our Bible a notebook, in which we asterisk anything that affects us personally, whether it's attitudes, activities, ministries, etc. Don't let God's voice to you be mere New Year's Day Resolutions that regularly fall by the wayside.
Note how the good deeds of some will be infectious to others. They see the results and want the same. We see here motivations to do good works - the Macedonians knew about it (accountability), and they wanted the good results. Yet, neither of these is really why they should be done, which would be to glorify God, and for the humble wish that others would do well. We don't always have pure motives, but with the act God still rewards us. How much more it would be with pure motives. God will reward your giving, but how much more if done to glorify Him, and truly in humility to see others do well.
They began a good work, and Paul encourages them to complete it. We need to make sure once we've begun doing what God wants to follow through to complete it.
