It is amazing that the king apparently did not fear or respect God, yet he feared and respected Elisha. The funny thing about that is that Elisha was merely a window to God, and what he feared and respected in Elisha was really God he was fearing and respecting.
Notice the discipleship reference. Like Paul called Timothy his son, here the king of Israel calls Elisha his father. It is the mentor/mentoree relationship.
