Amos 1:2 - Additional Comments

Mount Carmel is a string of mountains that run about 15 miles through central Palestine and and jut into the Mediterranean Sea (Jer 46:18).
"The Lord roars from Zion" suggests the roar of a lion as it pounces upon it's prey. This is an arresting way for Amos to begin his message to show that God's wrath was directed primarily against Israel.
Note the significance of this in light of the comments on verses 3:7 and 3:8.
