Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:

Amos 1:3 - Additional Comments
Damascus was northeast of Galilee by about 50 miles. It was the chief city of Syria.
Gilead was east of the Jordan River, between the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea.
They are being reproved for being cruel and barbaric. The will be led in captivity to Kir. It has not been determined where Kir was located.
