Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

Amos 1:6 - Additional Comments

Gaza was Philistia's most prominent merchant city, ideally situated between Egypt and Israel. It was not on the coast, but near the coast, and southwest of Jerusalem. The Philistines handed over the captive Israelites to the cruel Edomites. The result would be that the remnant of the Philistines would perish.
They are being reproved for making slaves.
