For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

Paul had never been to Colossae, yet he shows great personal concern for them and other churches he had not visited.
Paul was in a conflict, a battle, a struggle, for them. He is fighting for them, so that they may attain the results described in verse 2.
Note the care we can have for other Christians, even a passion for their well being, even though we have never met nor even spoken to them. This is the universal fellowship we have with all who are in Christ.
