Daniel 1:8

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

They had changed his name (verse 3) and changed his home, but they didn't change Who he served.
They had learned from Davidrayer, "Do not let me eat of their delicacies" (Psalm 141:4), and Solomonrinciple, "Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food" (Prov. 23:3).
