Daniel 9:13

As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

What did God tell them in the Law of Moses? See Deut 28:15-68. God warned them this calamity would come upon them if they did not obey Him.
God is constantly placing events in our life to draw us closer to Him and His character. Yet we so often ignore those events, or the fact that He is desperately trying to draw us to Him. Events come to us, some as disasters, yet we do not turn to God in prayer, nor try to understand what God is saying, His truth.
