Exodus 1:8 - Additional Comments

Joseph and his generation were now dead (vs 6). Those who were alive now did not know the people of that generation, so it was only stories at this point. Any obligation the Egyptians may have felt towards Joseph was gone, and there was no one to lift up Joseph's name or his people's name. The dead are soon forgotten (Eccl 9:5, 15). Our lives are but a vapor, which appears for a time, and then vanishes away (Psa 39:5, James 4:14).
Therefore, we are to please God, not man (Col 3:23-24), for God will not forget what we have done - Heb 6:10, even at the end of the age - Rev 22:12.
Note the king neither cared about the Israelites nor their God. It's amazing that Joseph's Pharaoh did not get his people to follow God after seeing He is the true God .
Until this time Egypt had been a place of blessing to the Israelites. Now it turns to become a cursed place.
