Exodus 21:22 - Additional Comments

This verse and the next three (21:23-25) describe the penalty if someone causes a woman to miscarry her baby.
If she is not harmed, but the baby miscarries, the one who did the harm will receive punishment as the father dictates, plus will have to pay a fine as a judge determines.
Also, if the mother is hurt, the one who harms her will himself have to receive the same injury. If she dies from the wounds, the perpetrator will be put to death.
Pregnant women are under special care and protection from God.
He that does wrong must expect one way or another to receive according to the wrong he has done - Col 3:25. God tells we always will pay for our sins (Psalm 7:16, 1 Kings 2:32, Amos 3:2, Heb 10:30); and sometimes the government administers this justice (Rom 13:4). There are many ways in which we may pay (Amos 2:13-16).
