Moses and Aaron have now been accepted by the Jewish leaders. Now they go before Pharaoh with the same word from God. God opened the hearts of the Israelites, but hardened Pharaoh's (4:21).
Is the book of Esther, King Ahasuerus was king over Persia and Media, and Esther was his queen. And yet, we read in Est 4:11 "All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that any man or woman who goes into the inner court to the king, who has not been called, he has but one law: put all to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter, that he may live. Yet I myself have not been called to go in to the king these thirty days."
This is not the same kingdom, but it gives a glimpse of what it is like to go into the presence of these powerful kings at that time. And here Moses and Aaron go before the king, not bowing to his mercy, but with a huge demand - "Let My people go."
Even though God said He would send Aaron with Moses to help Moses speak, we picture Moses as being the spokesperson before Pharaoh. It looks like for much of the time both were speaking and presenting to Pharaoh.
Exo 7:6-10 Then Moses and Aaron did so; just as the LORD commanded them, so they did... Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,... So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh...
In Exo 7:1 their positions are explained - "So the LORD said to Moses: "See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet." Moses was the leader, and Aaron was the spokesperson.
"The LORD" is Yehovah, or Jehovah, or YHWH, or Yahweh, which means eternal, and is the Jewish name for God. It uniquely is a term that is used for God that is not used for any other gods. It is used over 6000 times in the Old Testament.
"God" is elohim, meaning mighty God. It is more of a generic term for god or gods, and is the term used in Hebrew for our God.
