Ishmael was born to Hagar (Gen 16:11), after Sarah gave Hagar to Abraham out of frustration for being childless (Gen 16:1-3).
At the appointed time, Isaac was born to Sarah (Gen 17:19).
Ishmael was born out of the promise, out of impatience and selfishness. Isaac was born in the promise, the way God determined, in His time and His way.
