Galatians 5:2 - The Message

I am emphatic about this. The moment any one of you submits to circumcision or any other rule-keeping system, at that same moment Christ’s hard-won gift of freedom is squandered. I repeat my warning: The person who accepts the ways of circumcision trades all the advantages of the free life in Christ for the obligations of the slave life of the law.

Galatians 5:2 - Additional Comments

If you become circumcised to find favor with God, it will do nothing. You are leaning on obedience to the law for acceptance, but it won't work. Once you have attempted to receive acceptance through obedience, you are bound to obey the entire law (verse 3), you have become separated from Christ (verse 4), and you have fallen from grace (verse 4). Attempting to receive acceptance through obedience will only result in failure. You must go to God through faith in Christ (verses 5-6).
