Genesis 3:5 - Additional Comments

Satan continues in his lie -- he says they will have unspeakable gains from it. How often we are lured to sin by a perception of great things as result - again, a lie. He tempts, promising to the things of the world - 1 John 2:15-16. And so, she gave in because of those 3 temptations (verse 6).
Satan himself desired to be like God - Isaiah 14:14.
Another subtle lie - that the state they were currently in was insufficient, lacking. Here is another lie we hear, that we are in a lousy state of affairs, and it is so much better out there in the world. This lie says being in God's will is insufficient and lacking, and there is something better for us. This shows us that we can be discontent in any state, as Eve was in this perfect of states - the same with the angels who fell from their heavenly state - Jude 6.
Satan also insinuates that God does not know what is best for us, so he gets us to step outside of what God has told us directly to do - we see it as getting something better (e.g. drinking is fun, adultery is exciting). Or, the insinuation is that God knew what was best, but wouldn't provide it to us. And therefore does not have perfect love for us. In many ways this undermines our view of God.
Satan is clever, and without our knowledge throws events and warped truths as us which slowly, imperceptively, twists our view of God, so He becomes ineffective in our lives.
