Genesis 32:28 - Additional Comments

The nation is named "Israel" after the new name bestowed by God upon their father Jacob. You may have noticed that once in awhile God alternates calling them by their old name "Jacob". In general, "Jacob" is what God calls them when they're acting according to their old life, and "Israel" when they're acting in accordance with the new.
