Genesis 37:3 - Additional Comments

Joseph was loved more than the others (of the 12 sons) partially because he was the only child of the wife he loved, Rachel (Gen 29:30), who had been barren for a long time (i.e. Joseph was born in Jacob's old age).
And, without consideration of how the others felt, Jacob declared his special love for Joseph with the coat of many colors. This not only symbolized his special love for him, but also probably special honors he was intending to bestow on him.
