Genesis 39:7 - Additional Comments

How did this start? She noticed him, she checked him out. Isn't that how much of sin starts? Is there any real harm with wandering eyes? See 1 John 2:15-16.
Once the eyes become infected, the heart becomes infected. Stop the disease at its source. How can you prevent your eyes from wandering? Make a covenant with your eyes - Job 31:1-5.
She obviously didn't have a commitment to her husband. Have you made a commitment to your wife? Describe it to me. Is that how you operate? Have you made a commitment, a covenant, for what you look at?
Did she ever get to commit adultery with Joseph? In God's eyes she already had, for she had in her heart - Matt 5:27-28.
Here's the sequence - desire, temptation, sin, death - see James 1:14-15 (and notes on verse 15).
Once it gets to a certain state, any hindrances or propriety are tossed - boldness and carelessness prevail. Sin leads to more and more sin.
Satan could not sway Joseph, but he could get to her, so he used her to tempt with her charms and pleasures, the likes of which have ruined their tens of thousands.
Amazingly he resisted. How?
To make it worse, he probably had the mindset to do everything he could to please his master and his wife. It was his place to obey her. He was in peril to disobey her. Obeying her could have enhanced his career,
Note he did not plan ahead to sin, but the temptation came to him. Because of his relationship with God, he had determined ahead of time what was appropriate, and how he would act (not specifically, but generally).
Joseph had no time to "put up his guard". He succeeded because his guard was always up - he did not act differently in different circumstances.
And, if he had given in, she probably would have defended and protected him. At least, for a while.
What an honorable victory he had! And all of history sees his decision. What if all of history were to see the details of your life? What kind of story has it been? What kind of story will it be? What will be the difference?
